Friday the 12th of April saw tickets for Stellenbosch residence Wilgenhof’s event Carry 6 Packer sell out by 20h30, this year with a techno theme as well as a smaller secondary secret stage for the first time ever.
After selling out, roughly 400 people were granted access over the amount initially accounted for.
Cameron Shepard (22), a Wilgenhof resident as well as committee member involved in organising the event, said that the event was very successful, and that he and the rest of the team are proud and stoked after the cash up proved the event to be very profitable.
“The techno vibe definitely attracted a different crowd to what Carry 6 Packer has had in the past, and obviously there is a future for it,” said Shepard.
“The secret stage started to pump around 22:00 once the main stage had filled up.”
At their fullest capacities, there were approximately 1300 people at the main stage, and 250-300 people at the secret stage.
“Many people were raving about [the secret stage] to the extent that it could have been the highlight of the party. It gave a choice between two styles of music – namely techno vs disco,” continued Shepard.
Additional praise for the event’s organisation, as well as the inclusion of the second stage, was given by local DJ Tim Jankovich (21) who played on the night, saying that “the small stage went really well, there was a good crowd for most of the night until 00h00. It was really good.”
With supportive intentions, DJ Jankovich’s younger brother, Alex Jankovich (19) was in attendance at the event of which his friends excitedly dubbed “Seshlehem”.
Alex Jankovich hadn’t been to a Carry 6 Packer event before, but nevertheless thought that they did well to transition to techno, seeing as it’s a lot cheaper to get techno acts in comparison to the live acts of whom performed in the past.
“[While I was at the main stage for a while], the small stage appealed to me more due to local artists such as Jordan. (purposeful full stop) and Merge boosting everyone’s morale.”
Lastly, Alex Jankovich assessed the event deeper, saying that “Overall the event was well run; [however], the bar lines were too long. I think the lines were long due to the bartenders being first years who were under pressure, unsure of what to do, as well as being jostled by everyone.”
Shepard, proud of the efforts, concluded that “Redbull was great, SAB was fantastic, and [the event] turned out great.”
