Spier Wine Farm in Stellenbosch is currently displaying an art exhibition titled Ebbing: This is Me Re-awakened by You. The exhibition was created by Patrick Bongoy, a Congolese artist based in Cape Town.
With tyres as the medium of choice, Bongoy’s artwork focuses on the environmental degradation, pollution and historic trauma associated with the rubber industry; according to Spier’s blog.
The exhibition has been on display since 13 February and concluded on 13 May. SMF News spoke to Jessica van Rensburg, arts registrar at the Spier Arts Trust, on the importance of displaying work that so closely aligns with Spier’s environmental efforts.
