The Mthembu Salter-Powell Project, a jazz group from Cape Town, emerged as the overall winners in the the final round of Stellenbosch University’s National Ensemble Competition (SUNEC), which was held in the @sukonservatorium Endler Hall on 21 September.

This is according to one of the group’s co-leaders, Adam Powell.

The group comprises @powell._.adam and Khaya Mthembu-Salter, the co-leaders of the group, as well as Tefo Mohale and Joshua Nemaire.

“I’m glad we’re playing with these guys,” said Powell. “I think we wouldn’t have been able to produce what we did on the stage if it wasn’t with this exact ensemble.”

Eight musical ensembles, including percussion, jazz, and classical music ensembles, participated in the competition’s open category.
