21 June
21 June has been proclaimed as Go Skateboarding Day
Celebrate Go Skateboarding Day with The Shred Indoor Skatepark’s interactive event on 21 June 2019, 09h00–17h00. The celebration started in the United States as a celebration of the summer solstice. Non-skaters can enjoy coffee and entertainment by the Dank Bank Alliance in The Shred’s coffee shop.
22 June
The United Nations has also proclaimed 21 June International Day of Yoga. This day aims to raise awareness for the many benefits of practising yoga. The theme for 2019 is “Yoga with Gurus”.
Cape Town International Yoga Day will be celebrated on 22 June with an event at 14 Hope Street in Gardens. The event started as a collaboration between the Earthchild Project and Joelle Sleebos’ Dharma Project and aims to showcase yoga to underprivileged youths.
Admission is free but donations are welcomed.

23 June
While a strong cold front is expected to make landfall in the peninsula on Friday 21 June, the weather is set to take a turn for the better on Sunday 23 June, and International Surfing Day will be celebrated at Muizenberg. Heather Price is the first documented stand-up surfer in South Africa in 1919. South Africa’s surf culture will celebrate its centenary with an attempt at breaking the world record for people on a paddle out, which is currently at 511 people set at Huntington Beach in California.
You can join the paddle out or join as a spectator watching from Surfer’s Corner Beach.
If you rather want to stay under cover, pay a visit to the Publik Wine Fair taking place at Just Like Pappa in Harrington Street. It takes place from 12pm to 5pm and an entrance ticket is R200 and can be purchased online.
