We live in a digital, social media-driven society where the popularity of social networking sites such as Instagram, Facebook, and more recently, TikTok, has led to the rise of a new kind of celebrity – the influencer.
Under the nationwide lockdown in March and April 2020, people were stuck at home with nothing but time on their hands. The South African social media scene soon exploded and influencers had to quickly adapt to stay relevant and keep their audiences interested through online content.
This was an opportunity for local influencers to extend their brands and focus on how they can use this time to grow their following.
