A Stellenbosch-based animal shelter recently received an internationally acclaimed award for their rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming efforts.
This is according to Kaven Cooper, an account executive at AI Global Media.
The Animal Welfare Society Stellenbosch (AWSS) won the Best Animal Non-Profit Shelter Award at the sixth edition of the MEA Markets African Excellence Awards, according to the AWSS Instagram page. MEA Markets belongs to AI Global Media, according to the MEA Markets website.
The awards recognise the “very best” in the African industry, according to Cooper. The African Excellence Awards are merit-based and accept nominations from every country within Africa, said Cooper.
The AWSS’s initiatives to adopt rehabilitated animals is what enabled them to receive the award on 17 August, said Cooper.
The team at the Animal Welfare Society Stellenbosch (AWSS) is very focused on humane education, sterilisation and finding homes for stray animals, said Jessica Perrins, general manager of the AWSS. Hard work pays off
The award process included a nomination stage, a research and submissions process, and the final judgement, explained Henriette Lamprecht, a volunteer at AWSS.
The entire process lasted roughly 24 months, said Cooper.
The judgement was based on criteria such as business performance, longevity, business growth, and any significant innovations or feedback from stakeholders, clients and customers, according to Cooper.
The quality of life that the animals have is important to the team at the Animal Welfare Society Stellenbosch (AWSS), said Jessica Perrins, general manager of the AWSS. The dogs are not confined to cement kennels, said Henriette Lamprecht, a volunteer at the AWSS. A high bar
“We’ve set the bar very high. I was extremely proud to be a part of that machine,” said Lamprecht.
The award will generate more financial and physical support for the shelter, according to Marisca Forrer-Jordaan, a volunteer at the shelter.
The team at AWSS strives to have a very “happy” shelter, according to Jessica Perrins, general manager of the AWSS. “Our mission statement is to treat all animals as sentient beings, with the right to a good quality life,” said Perrins.
It was clear that the team at AWSS passionately protects the lives of many animals, and also wants to educate local communities on how to become involved, said Cooper.
The Animal Welfare Society Stellenbosch (AWSS) is a “stellar” example of a society that is dedicated to improving animal welfare across Stellenbosch and further, said Kaven Cooper, account manager at AI Global Media.
