The new bookstore, Stellenbosch Books, will begin conducting business on 24 August, said Anke Cullinan, manager of Stellenbosch Books.

Stellenbosch Books, which launched on 21 August, has been in progress for a few months, said Ramon Corie, owner of the new bookstore.

According to Corie, who is also the owner of Manoushe, the restaurant next door to where the new book store will stand, he is excited to branch into selling books, on top of owning a successful restaurant.

“The concept of the bookstore will be different to the traditional one in the sense that we are looking to open a coffee shop within the building and have an entrance from Manoushe, which is next door,” said Cullinan.

According to Corie, the installation of new equipment and furniture will give a comfortable feeling that is usually associated with bookstores, with a coffee shop and a restaurant close by.

“Although we have a number of books still coming in, we are ready to open,” said Cullinan.

According to the store’s Instagram page, the store is located where a branch of the well-known bookstore chain, Exclusive Books, once stood.

Local resident Yvonne de Beer said that she was excited to see a new bookstore in town and how it will differ from other bookstores.

“As an avid reader, I am excited to see a new bookstore open and I am interested to see what will separate it from other normal bookstores,” De Beer said.

Since Exclusive Books closed earlier this year, it was nice to see that the space was still kept as a bookstore, although it seems like it will be much different, she said.
