Stellenbosch University (SU) students gathered at Irene women’s residence on 3 October for a women-only mehndi night. The event marked the start of charity week, a project started by Islamic Relief South Africa to raise money and awareness for children in countries experiencing poverty.
This is according to Yasmeen Zingitwa, the vice-chairperson of the SU Muslim Student Association (MSA), which hosted the event.
The event’s attendees were treated to chai, koeksisters, and board games while they waited for members of the MSA committee to do their mehndi.
In addition to charity, the event was organised with the aim of creating a wider sense of community amongst the Muslim students on campus, said Zingitwa.
