Delivering goods
The deceased was identified as Russel Volminck, according to Edgar Petersen, a long-time friend of Volminck who was called to the scene.
“[The victim] was delivering frozen chicken to a spaza shop in Klapmuts and collected cash in return,” he said.
Four armed men then allegedly approached the victim’s vehicle and demanded the money he received, said Pojie.

Fleeing the scene
One of the suspects shot the victim in his vehicle, said Pojie. The others pulled him out and took the cash and meat he had, explained Pojie. They then fled the scene on foot, according to Pojie.
SAPS received a complaint of a robbery in progress and were dispatched shortly after the shooting, he said.
“[While] we were waiting for the ambulance to arrive, [Volminck] passed away,” said Elizabeth Leibrandt, a resident near the spaza shop who was also present at the scene.
SAPS confirmed that the victim passed away before they arrived on the scene.
“Russell was a great guy [who] always looked out for others,” said Petersen.
