The Eikestad Mall parking lot has been closed to the public until further notice, Eikestad Mall stated in a media statement released on Tuesday.
Following the collapse of a retaining wall in the Eikestad Mall parking lot (link to previous article) on Monday, the underground parking lot was evacuated and emergency services were called immediately.
Stellenbosch Fire and Rescue were the first respondents to arrive on the scene. Later that same evening, after assessing the damage, the SAPS took control of the scene.
“We can report that no injuries were sustained. We prioritise the safety of our employees and visitors at all times and are working closely with independent investigators to ascertain the cause of the incident,” mall management stated in the media release.
