Servest landscaping and cleaning workers based at Stellenbosch University, recently held an organised protest in collaboration with the Independent Commercial Hospitality & Allied Workers Union (ICHAWU), to demand higher wages from Servest management. Workers urged SU students to boycott Servest on 13 May, the day of the protest. This is according to a statement sent out by ICHAWU’s head office.
Workers claim that the university’s minimum wage, totalling R7 448 per month, is not liveable, and that the management of Servest has not listened to them, according to the statement.
