Slam poetry evening creates space for expression

People gathered to express themselves artistically at a slam poetry evening, which was held at Republique Coffee in Stellenbosch on 12 September. All topics were welcome to the open mic, as the aim of the evening was to create a safe space for people to share whatever was on their mind and heart, said Tshego Mokoena, a third-year BA (Humanities) student at Stellenbosch University (SU) and one of the founders of Spoken Collective.

The event was organised by Spoken Collective, which is run by three SU students who aim to create an artistic space that lends itself to various forms of expression, said Jacqueline Dow, a third-year Fine Arts student at Stellenbosch University, and a founder of Spoken Collective.
