Lawyers of Johan Steyn, the man who drove over a security guard in Stellenbosch, will continue with the process of representation.
“We will place all the circumstances before the Prosecution in order to consider finalising the matter in terms of Section 105A of the Criminal Procedure Act 51 of 1977, in which we will negotiate a plea and sentence agreement with the aim of Restorative Justice for all the parties involved,” Bruce Hendricks, Steyn’s lawyer, told MatieMedia. He also said that he was informed that the State will not consider the withdrawal of charges.
News24 reported on Friday that the State will continue with an attempted murder case against Steyn.
According to News24, this is what was heard by the Stellenbosch Regional Court on Friday after the State described the defence’s efforts to make representations to the State as a waste of time. Steyn (39) made a brief appearance on Friday.
Steyn also faces an alternative charge of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
The case was postponed to 24 October for pre-trial proceedings and consultation.
