A Stellenbosch Football Club (FC) forward has scored an uncommon amount of goals for a local level, according to Jason Rhoda, the Stellenbosch FC Diski team assistant coach, during an interview with MatieMedia.
Iqraam Rayners scored nine goals in six games for the club between 25 February and 17 March, netting strikes against Chippa United FC, Moroka Swallows FC, Richards Bay FC, T.S Galaxy FC, AmaZulu FC and Mamelodi Sundowns FC. This is according to the Premier Soccer League (PSL) website.

‘A good feeling’
“It is always a good feeling to score goals and help the team,” stated Rayners via written correspondence with MatieMedia. “It’s always good to make the team proud. It’s always good for the supporters to be behind the team. I’m happy. That’s all I can say, I’m happy.”
“At some of the bigger clubs, like Mamelodi Sundowns and that, you have your consistent goal scorers, but for a club like ours, unfortunately we didn’t have that for a while. And that was why we were in the position [lower on the PSL log] we were, prior to guys like Iqraam Rayners,” said Rhoda.
Jason Rhoda, Stellenbosch Football Club (FC) Diski team assistant coach, commented on Rayners’ performance since returning to Stellenbosch FC.
Back on home turf
“We’re just so delighted to have him back,” said Rhoda. Rayners played for SuperSport United FC during the 2020/2021 PSL season according to SuperSport FC CEO Stan Matthews, in an interview with SNL24.
Rayners left SuperSport FC as he was not happy at the club and wanted to return to his former club, Stellenbosch FC, according to Gavin Hunt’s statement to TimesLive.
Rayners always sparked for Stellenbosch, according to former Stellenbosch FC central defender, Tristan Hanslo. “The boy just keeps scoring and if he keeps scoring, they’ll keep winning,” said Hanslo, who is a close friend of Rayners.
Stellenbosch FC was 14th on the PSL log during the 2020/2021 season and 4th during the 2021/2022 season, according to Euro Sport’s website. The club is currently 8th on the log, according to the PSL website.
