Steve Barker, Stellenbosch FC coach, said that it was one of their best games. Everyone in the team played their part and contributed to the win, Barker added.
“Today was one of the games since I’ve been at this football club that I can look [at] and say that this team has matured. They’ve grown, they’ve matured,” said Barker. “I’m just really in awe of some of the quality that I witnessed this afternoon.”

Stellenbosch victorious
After their victory on 13 April, Stellenbosch FC is set to face Sekhukhune United and TS Galaxy in away games for the PSL, according to Barker. These two games – which will be played on 17 and 21 April, according to the PSL website – will make for one of the biggest weeks in the club’s history, as it will be “two tough games against two teams in good form,” said Barker.
“We expected Stellenbosch FC to win [the match on 13 April], because this is home. Even though we knew how strong SuperSport United is, Stellenbosch is unbeatable in their homeground,” said Stellenbosch FC supporter Siphelo Mzoyi after the game.
Gavin Hunt, SuperSport United coach, said that the windy weather conditions at Danie Craven Stadium on 13 April were not in their favour and they did not adapt well.
“We didn’t play well [Saturday] that’s for sure. We didn’t adapt and it suited them to play because it suits the way they play.”
Semi-finals draw
For the Nedbank Cup semi-finals, Stellenbosch is set to play Sundowns at Danie Craven stadium. The date for the match has not been confirmed yet but the SuperSport website reports that it will be on the first weekend of May.
