A Stellenbosch restaurant has been nominated in the annual KFM Best of the Cape Awards. The Meeting Place, a restaurant on Dorp Street, was one of five nominees in the category of “Best Breakfast Spot” in Cape Town.
This is according to Dieter Rix, owner of The Meeting Place, who received notice of the nomination on 23 July, via KFM’s social media.
The Meeting Place, Skêr Barber Co., and St. BeerYard are the Stellenbosch based businesses nominated in this year’s Best of the Cape Awards.

‘It is a family business’
Being nominated for the award in his first six months of owning the establishment has given Rix a sense of pride and gratitude, he said.
Rix believes that being connected to his customers provides great value to the business.
“We have a very close relationship with so many of our customers, and we always try [to] spread the family feeling to everyone that joins us for a meal,” said Rix.
“I know we make the best [food],” said Sharon Moyo, head chef at The Meeting Place.

Local Excellence
“The nomination reflects the commitment of local businesses to provide exceptional food and [services], contributing to the town’s reputation as a destination for fine dining and unique culinary experiences,” said Stellenbosch Municipality spokesperson Stuart Grobbelaar.
Grobbelaar believes that such a nomination will boost the local tourist market.
The Meeting Place falls into one of the 30 categories, for this year’s Best of the Cape Awards. With the aim to celebrate local businesses that make the Western Cape special. The public was encouraged to nominate their favourite local businesses, on the Primedia Plus app or website.
The winners of the Best of the Cape Awards will be announced on Thursday 15 August.
