‘A strange commotion’
The student was walking home from campus when they were attacked and stabbed multiple times, they said.
Residents in the area allegedly heard a “strange commotion” at a similar time to that of the incident, claimed Natasha Brown, a resident who lives on Jan Celliers Road.
An older man assisted the victim directly after the incident, claimed a close friend of the victim who also requested to remain anonymous.
The victim suffered multiple flesh wounds but received medical attention shortly after the attack, said the friend.

Student safety
The safety of students and staff members remains a primary concern for the university, said Martin Viljoen, spokesperson for SU.
“The fact that the Stellenbosch Campus is an open campus intertwined with the Stellenbosch central business district and surroundings, however, continues to pose unique challenges,” said Viljoen.
The staff at SU have devoted substantial time, energy, and resources to enhance safety and security measures in recent years, stated Viljoen. However, safety and security arrangements are continuously reviewed, according to Viljoen.
“Students are encouraged to report any security-related matter to Campus Security; we are available 24/7,” said Melany le Roux, manager of security systems and intelligence at SU.
