Three people injured in Pniel car crash

Three people recently sustained moderate to serious injuries after a motor vehicle accident in Pniel.

This is according to Russel Meiring, corporate communication officer at ER24.

The three individuals were left injured when their light motor vehicle collided with a Toyota Hilux bakkie, according to Meiring.

The accident happened on the R310 road in Pniel, outside the OK Minimark, on 23 April, at around 7:25 pm.

One man and two women were in the light motor vehicle that collided with the bakkie, with a male driver, according to members of the Stellenbosch Fire Department, who declined to provide their names.

It is understood that a baby was on board the bakkie, but that the baby was not injured and was safely returned to their mother. This was confirmed by various eyewitnesses, including Ephias Mabika, a security guard at OK Minimark.

“When the car [containing the three passengers] drove out of OK, the bakkie crashed into them,” claimed Kurt Lee Rhode, an employee at OK Minimark who was at the scene of the crash.

After ER24, Metro Rescue and Emergency Medical Services arrived at the scene, “it was found that two people had sustained serious injuries while a third had sustained moderate injuries”, said Meiring. “The patients were treated and provided with pain-relief medication before they were transported to nearby hospitals for urgent care,” he stated.

Members of the Pniel community assisted in redirecting traffic from the accident, said Colin Myburgh, Pniel community member.

The Stellenbosch Fire Department cleared the scene after the injured individuals were taken to nearby hospitals.
