The Stellenbosch University (SU) Student Representative Council (SRC) election process has successfully proceeded online during the Covid-19 pandemic, and subsequent nationwide lockdown.
The nomination process has been successful and the caucus season has started.
According to the SRC’s public relations officer, Lukhanyo Ngamlana, there are 21 candidates running for SRC office in 2020/2021. He said that with everything happening online, the student body is more willing to engage with the SRC elections.
“This is largely because you can do it on your own terms, you can choose how and when you want to engage and nothing is forced on you. You don’t need to sit through hours of in-person caucuses, you get to enjoy it from the comfort of your own home or not,” Ngamlana said.
The official voting process will start on 17 August and close on the 21 August at 23:59pm.
