Increasing food prices at Wimbledon Hub have upset students belonging to the cluster.
Unbeknown to some students, the cluster increased prices for meals over the last year by over 20%.
Wimbledon cluster, which is made up of a number of residences including Helshoogte and Private Student Organisations (PSOs) such as Aristea, provides a hub where students belonging to the cluster may purchase anything from prepared meals to snacks and drinks.
Wimbledon Hub is catered to by food service provider C3. In recent months, prices of many prepared meals, which many students purchase using their student cards, have increased by over 20%.

Wimbledon Hub’s manager could not be reached for comment.
LLL resident and final year student Elana Ryklief (22) commented that most of the meals are over R50 which causes her student account to “skyrocket”.
Wimbledon Cluster member Nonela Nyongo (21) said that eating at the food hub was becoming more costly than buying at surrounding shops such as En Route.
Sinesipho Pokela (22) said that despite increasing food prices, purchasing at the hub is easier as students do not need cash, which makes life more convenient.
Pokela said while she prefers to cook her own meals, there are times when she cannot and must buy food from the hub.
Despite increasing food prices, Wimbledon Hub continues to attract a large number of students daily, most of whom buy both lunch and dinner at food services provider. – Nyakallo Moleko
